"Te Ara Utu: The Toll Road to Nowhere — How Chris Bishop's Neoliberal PPP Machine Is Building a Poverty Trap Through the Heart of Te Tai Tokerau" - 6 April 2026

The Crown is building a toll road through the most deprived region in Aotearoa. 43% of Northlanders are in the bottom deprivation band. Māori unemployment sits at 20%. People die nine years younger than their Pākehā neighbours.

And Chris Bishop's response is to toll them $3,400 a year — and send the revenue to private investors.

Ngāpuhi's Treaty settlement is still stalled. The land is unsettled. The Crown's obligations are unpaid. But the tollpoints are already designed.

This is what neoliberal colonialism looks like in 2026. Not a musket. A tollgate.
