"The Silencer: How Sean Plunket Weaponises the Microphone Against Māori Climate Truth" - 8 April 2026
He misnamed her. He ambushed her. He called her life's work a grift.
Dr Mawera Karetai sat down to discuss climate education in schools. Sean Plunket demanded she recite IPCC statistics from memory — on air, unprepared, as though the burden of proof for the entire global climate science consensus rested on one Māori woman's shoulders in a three-minute radio slot.
This is not skepticism. It is a colonial tactic with a headset.
The IPCC AR6 calls human-caused extreme weather intensification an "established fact." NIWA confirms it for Aotearoa specifically. Cyclone Gabrielle caused $14.5 billion in damage and disproportionately destroyed Māori cultural infrastructure. And Plunket calls the education response a "lie."
The BSA has already fined him for amplifying negative Māori stereotypes. The pattern is not new. It is a business model.
New essay up: The Silencer — full deconstruction of Plunket's playbook, the three western-world examples that quantify the real harm, and why Dr Karetai was absolutely right to hang up.
