While the CIA did not set out to start the psychedelic movement, its covert research inadvertently provided the initial supply of LSD and introduced key figures of the 1960s counterculture to the drug. The Agency, particularly chemist Sidney Gottlieb, was the unwitting godfather of the entire LSD counterculture.
