Kermit (“Kim”) Roosevelt Jr., a senior CIA operative and grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, played a central role in organizing the 1953 coup that overthrew Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. Acting as the CIA’s project commander in Iran, Roosevelt coordinated propaganda, political pressure, and street-level unrest to destabilize Mossadegh’s government and restore the Shah to power.
