When I joined Substack two years ago, I had no idea what to expect and then I stumbled upon Cafe Anne. Reading stories about miserable priests, vegan trade shows, and mystery steak houses, I knew I'd found my corner of the internet, though I never imagined I'd find myself among the cast of characters that Anne would focus her considerable investigative skills on.
Being profiled by her feels a bit like being written about by Joseph Mitchell—minus the made up parts. Having moved to the city only twenty years ago, I've always felt hesitant to call myself a New Yorker (though I did score a respectable 162 on The CAFÉ ANNE Real New Yorker Test). Now that I've made it into Cafe Anne, maybe I finally can.
So thank you for that, and for the wonderful profile. It's probably the most I've ever spoken about myself, and I'm still recovering, but it was a blast!
