Last week, wandering Bayswater in Queens, I came across two hefty stone columns marooned in the yard of a modest ranch house. Later, going through vintage postcards of the area, I came across them again, marking the entrance to a sprawling estate owned by a former commodore of the Bayswater Yacht Club.
