Horror Cinema has always been drawn to the rupture of the body- skin breaking, wounds opening, flesh destroyed. Pain turns the body into a ritual site, a threshold that must be crossed. This idea is nothing new. Throughout history, the annihilation of the flesh has been understood by some as the route to transcendence.
