An earlier version of this essay seems to have misidentified the subway station where this occured. At first one sees tile work that reads “155th St.” But for a fraction of a second this comes into view. Wikipedia and other sources indicate that the 155th station serving the B and D lines have this tile work. The C train stop has tile work that reads “155th St.” If anyone cares to correct me please message me directly.
