Slow-Looking August: Hannah Höch. I’ve been looking for Höch’s sketchbooks, nothing in the way of working drawings but came upon this address book that is quite an art object. She never replaced it and kept it from 1917 to 1978. It grew to 430 pages and is said to hold thousands of names; she had to tie it shut with parcel string. In it you will find Arp, Schwitters, Max Ernst, Feininger, Moholy-Nagy alongside her favorite hairdresser. The conservators considered it another collage of hers.
