A video making the rounds shows Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback telling a Black man he “should be lynched” during a heated exchange over allegations involving teenage girls. In the clip, the man says, “I don’t want you smashing teenage girls in our state ever again,” and Fishback fires back, “You should be lynched for lying about me like that.”

This isn’t landing as a one-off slip. Fishback has already taken heat this cycle for race-charged attacks and rhetoric flirting with public hanging. So the problem isn’t just how ugly the moment looks, it’s that it fits a pattern. At some point, it stops sounding like an outburst and starts sounding like the brand. What an asshole.
