A massive new transmission line is being planned through the heart of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park — and right now, the public has ameaningful opportunity to help inform the process. The Golden Pacific Powerlink is a proposed 500-kilovolt (kV) high-voltage transmission line that would run approximately 135 miles from the Imperial Valley Substation in southern Imperial County to the border of San Diego and Orange Counties, near the decommissioned San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. If built along its currently anticipated route, the line would cut directly through Anza-Borrego — through designated wilderness, cultural preserves, and some of the most ecologically sensitive landscapes in Southern California.
