The enshittification of Spotify is almost complete. After demonetising 67% of music on the site since April - mostly from alternative and small independent artists, and funneling their earnings to major label artists (but mostly their label and its shareholders), they then introduced Smart Shuffle to populate third party playlists with algorithmic picks. Now they’ve just reduced Release Radar from 200 tracks to just 30 new releases from your followed artists and to add insult to injury have decided to throw in major label artists in the top ten who you don't even follow. They're not even pretending to care about the artists or listeners any more. If you care about music, especially independent and alternative music, I would suggest moving to Napster, Tidal or Apple Music who respectively pay the most and pay ALL artists regardless of popularity. You can use soundiiz.com(tried and tested) or other apps to transfer all your saved playlists, tracks, albums and followed artists to your new streaming service painlessly.
POST UPDATE:
It looks like, three weeks after it was first reported, that the Release Radar issue might be resolved. It was quite a “glitch” for a multi-national company with $15 Billion annual revenue. All the other comments still stand though and I’ll add their Discovery Mode to the list, which was introduced last year and offered artists the chance to take a 30% pay cut for increased visibility across the site, with many people likening this to payola. Spotify really are an increasingly hard company to like for both artists and listeners.
