Well, that was frustrating! I figured an hour would do it. I’d do a quick rewrite, tighten things up, a quick polish, and I’d be done.

A piece that I thought was sloppy but held promise is now sitting on the ‘cutting room floor’. Four attempts to mold it into shape has left me thinking it isn’t going to survive. And I stayed up until 11:30 to figure that out.

Sometimes I’ll wake up the next morning with the solution, but it’s 7:26 now, and there are no signs of inspiration. Just the realization that if Piece 1 doesn’t work, Piece 2 (which alludes to Piece 1) will also need a rethink.

Back to the drawing board. I’m actually going to have to draw an outline for the two pieces to see if there is, in fact, a pathway. Sometimes things are very clear in my head, but just fall apart on the page. This is one of those times.

Alright, get out your notebook, and your colourful pens, and get to work.
