From the beginning, Theurgy has taught that Nature is consciousness and interconnected. Its interconnectedness makes all things participant to the divine intelligence that continually maintains the universal march to self-awareness.
Continuing with Giordano Bruno, who brought modern scientific awarenss into play, this notion of pantheism and panpsychism has a rich history in western philosophy. Henri Bergson and Alfred North Whitehead are two instances of this progress, grounded in science but open to non-materialist and -reductionist metaphysics.
Thomas Nagel writes of Bergson's system:
"Henry Bergson's conception of creative evolution postulated a similar tendency [that is, a 'tendency toward the proliferation of complex forms and the generation of multiple variations in the range of possible complex systems'], but he thought of it, not as an addition to the natural order, but as the free creation of a universal vital force."
Bergson is a successor to Bruno. His thought can be a bridge to a modern, revolutionary esoteric and occult understanding of consciousness.
