“Cole Sear: I see dead people.

Malcolm Crowe: In your dreams?

[Cole shakes his head no]

Malcolm Crowe: While you're awake?

[Cole nods]

Malcolm Crowe: Dead people like, in graves? In coffins?

Cole Sear: Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're dead.

Malcolm Crowe: How often do you see them?

Cole Sear: All the time. They're everywhere.“

-The Sixth Sense (1999) Cole Seer sharing his vulnerable secret to psychiatrist Doctor Malcolm Crowe

This quote has always stuck with me…not because of the obvious pop culture reference of Cole Seer admitting to seeing ghosts…but the keen observation that this very kind hearted, emotionally intelligent child makes that the ghosts don’t see each other. They only SEE what they WANT to see. This is not only true in this film, but it’s very true to real life. The people we interact with on a daily basis absolutely see only what they want to see. And they don’t always see each other. In fact, no matter how hard to explain or show something in any type of way, logically, metaphorically, spelling it out, etc. to anyway, there will always be certain individuals that you cannot reach.
