Sometimes when I’m feeling particularly whiny or apathetic about cleaning, laundry, cooking or even child-minding, I like to play a little game in my head where I pretend I’m at a good friend’s house and want her to be happy when she gets home to see clean dishes and floors, a dinner made, all of the laundry put away and/or happy and occupied kids. Sometimes I even pretend she is due to be home soon so I work faster 😆

It really tends to help shift my energy towards cheerfulness, or at least a renewed sense of purpose and productivity, because I want my “friend” to feel relieved, comfortable and grateful.

Maybe my point is that sometimes it’s easier to dig into our reserves and access the will that we really need when we are considering life from perspectives beyond our own.
