This coming Tuesday, January 27, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day honors the memory of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population.
January 27 was chosen because it is the day the Red Army freed the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.
Since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, there has been an unprecedented rise in antisemitism, Holocaust distortion, and Holocaust denial around the world.
Seven years ago, as a rabbi in Silicon Valley, I spoke at San Jose City Hall for International Holocaust Day about The Consequences of Indifference and the Danger of Contemporary Anti-Semitism. Events in recent years have made this message even more relevant.
