Three of these brave men have left this mortal coil, but we should always honor what they did in this life on the anniversary of the Greensboro Woolworth’s sit-in.

Important change does not always happen through rational argument, because power structures tend to believe they know best. It happens when people persist in protesting injustice with their time, their well-being, and sometimes even their lives.

Sixty-six years ago today, Jibreel Khazan (formerly Ezell Blair Jr.), the late Maj. Gen. Joseph McNeil, the late Franklin McCain Sr., and the late David Richmond Jr. sparked the sit-in movement by requesting to be served at the downtown Greensboro Woolworth’s whites-only lunch counter—the A&T Four.

But it wasn’t just “a day.” They joined forces with others and pushed the movement forward, showing up daily. That movement spread across the country.

Today, we honor their resistance. ✊🏽
