Here’s a United States anti Jay Walking propaganda poster from the 1930s. In 1925 the country decided (after being pressured by the Auto Lobby) that it was the pedestrian and not the driver who was legally liable for their safety in city streets. It was not a broadly popular idea at the time (thus the propaganda). We spent the next century designing a country that accommodates one particular form of transport at the cost of everything else. Time for a change.

Places that are good for walking are good for almost everything else except driving.

Places that are good for driving are bad for eveything, including driving.
