Here lies a critical distinction between conservatives and modern liberals (not classical liberals). For most conservatives, there is a God above governments and the artifacts of culture. That conviction means no government or cultural creation is sacred. Modern liberals, however, invert this order: they elevate governments and cultural artifacts to the level of the sacred, and regard them as worth killing to defend.
