I love James Wood as a critic. And I’m sure his novels are good. Or at least decent. I’m just never going to read them. I know it’s my own bias but I just don’t want to hear from successful or major critics as novelists. Novelists can be critics and essayists, sure. But something about the critic-turned-novelist feels wrong.
