I was at Shea that night in 1969, in yellow box seats down the 1st base line. Jimmy Qualls, who played in 63 games with a .223 batting average over his brief career, laced a clean single to center, with one out in the 9th.

The fans were going crazy. I think that was the night Mets fans -- and maybe Mets -- began to believe it was possible.
