Trump’s 180 take on Ukraine is wild.

Except, it’s not a 180 take. Every action Trump takes must be viewed in the prism of the Two Rules of Trumpism.

1st Rule: Trump Wins.

2nd Rule: A deal can always be made as long as it adheres to the 1st Rule of Trumpism.

He tried diplomacy with Russian President Vladimir Putin (much to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s dismay.) He met with Putin. He shared his view and the opportunity with world leaders at the White House. Then, Putin kept bombing Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine.

Russia ignorantly letting drones fly over Poland didn’t help, either.

Trump promised he’d get this war ended. And he doesn’t care how it ends, as long as he can say HE ended it. If it mean Ukraine giving up land for peace, that was fine (and the EU would have gone along with that as well.)

But if Putin isn’t going to accept a deal, if NATO has agreed to get tougher now rather than later, if NATO is going to buy U.S. hardware and if Trump doesn’t have to commit any troops? Well, why not favor Ukraine taking their land back and Russia being defeated?
