Interesting. Ed Conway, Sky News journalist, had his personal YouTube account deleted last night - and it has caused quite a lot of eyebrows to be raised. His account was eventually reinstated (with the classic YouTube automated explanation for why it was deleted in the first place).
I’ve written a lot about how slop and content farm material is rife on the platform, and how YT is using AI as a wackamole to try to get rid of it (however, without changing the financial incentives, surely it will only ever be a sticking plaster?).
Many creators who claim to be legitimate enterprises have been caught, so while Ed’s account probably wasn’t targeted because of his job, it is interesting to note how widespread the AI wackamole net is at the moment, and how frustrating it is to be on the receiving end of this non-human process - especially when it seems so imprecise.
Anyway - here is something I wrote earlier on this situation
