“The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling this morning on Trump v. Barbara, affirming birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment, is a clear win for American democracy. Since the Civil War, our country has recognized that anyone born in this country is a citizen — full stop. Today, the Court upheld that enduring promise of equality.
To be clear: We came this close to losing a right that has defined who we are for 158 years. This extremist challenge should never have made it to the Supreme Court at all, or been up for debate.
It was. And today, the Court got it right. In doing so, it directly pushed back against a hateful and frankly racist agenda.
If you spent the last two years afraid that the country you were born into might decide you don't belong, that your loved ones, your friends, neighbors, caregivers, the people who make up your life do not belong, I want to say, YOU BELONG. Period.
But now that we’ve come far too close to losing another piece of who we are, I urge you:
Take a stand. Don't hide. Be vocal. Trump and MAGA picked this fight because they believe Americans won't notice or won't push back. Prove them wrong.
Run for office. This is how we build the bench, from the ground up, to make sure no future court ever gets this close again.
Organize and volunteer. The people who brought this case aren't done. Neither are we.
On the eve of our 250th year, the American experiment lives. Happy Fourth of July. Now let’s get to work, because we cannot let it get this close again. Whether you're a candidate, a staffer, or simply relieved and ready to do something with that relief, there is a place for you in this fight. We need you in it. And NDTC is here to help you start right away, with whatever path you choose." — Kelly Dietrich, NDTC Founder and CEO
