‘Detachment doesn’t imply any withdrawal from the world, any lack of care or concern, nor any coldness. It simply implies being free of the burden of separation with its train of needs, fears, anxieties. As a result, imperturbable peace, causeless joy and unconditional love can be fully expressed in the world, unhindered.’

In my latest contemplation for paid subscribers, the seventh in my series exploring the Christian mystic Meister Eckhart, we discover that one who has this detachment may become more active in the world – their attention no longer taken up with their own inner emotional life, their own dramas, and thus they have free attention and energy to use in service of the peace, joy and love that are the nature of being.
