‘The waking, dreaming and deep sleep states are always experienced now, in this, the only now there is. It is only from the point of view of the waking state mind that waking, dreaming and sleeping appear to take place in a single shared time. In the dream, a new time and space comes into being, created by the dreaming mind. On waking, we recognise that the time and space of the dream did not take up any time or space in the waking world. They were real only from within the dream’s own frame.’
In this enquiry for paid subscribers, Week 36 of exploring The Nature of Consciousness, we see that the same peace that underlies deep sleep underlies our current experience as well. It is present now just as it is present in sleep, not waiting to be reached or recovered, but here, behind the movement of thought and perception, as the ground on which all of it arises.
