Taught my last rhet comp class of the semester. A student shared that she sent her dad the magazine she made for her A-level labor project and it made him cry. It was filled with personal reflections about their time on Nantucket, family photos, nature pictures, a write up about his fishing business, & a piece on the history of the island.

This student did not identify as a writer at the start of the semester. Her submissions improved steadily with each assignment. Class ended with her saying she wants to keep adding to her publication and the tools she was able to use made her writing feel real.

This isn’t a flex. Many professors do this. It’s why I wrote my piece this week. Because we can’t blue book our way to ^^^that.
