Reading thru Genesis 43, we see some typical human behaviors.
Jacob blaming his sons for giving the Egyptian leader (Joseph) info about Benjamin & making it a personal problem for himself. Kind of like, “Why did this happen to me? Woe is me, etc.”
“And Israel said, “Why did you deal so wrongfully with me as to tell the man whether you had still another brother?””
Genesis 43:6
The brothers (sons of Jacob) cast the worst possible light on a situation that is actually a benefit to them. How often do we do this with negative self-talk! It’s like Chicken Little, “The sky is falling!”
“Now the men were afraid because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, “It is because of the money, which was returned in our sacks the first time, that we are brought in, so that he may make a case against us and seize us, to take us as slaves with our donkeys.”” Genesis 43:18
As Christian believers, we need to choose to look for the Lord’s perspective on things rather than our own very limited assessment, as we see David do so often in the Psalms.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Psalms 103:1-5 NKJV
