Our first triathlon of the season wasn’t what we expected.

To start, it wasn’t even a triathlon…

We showed up in Gulfport, Mississippi ready to do a 1/3 distance triathlon.

1-mile swim. 60K bike. 15K run. We had a plan. We were ready.

Instead, what we got was a cancelled swim, 25 mph wind, and a race that was completely different than what imagined.

And somehow… we delivered some of our best results yet.

Matt won his age group and finished 5th overall male, and I placed 2nd in my age group and was 4th overall female.

And not because everything went perfectly.

We succeeded because we trusted in our preparation, kept the appropriate perspective, and were able to adapt and adjust.

Because the truth is, race day rarely goes to plan.

The athletes who succeed aren’t those with the perfect plan, they’re the ones who can still execute when the plan is torn to shreds.
