Honest answers desired here… For those of you who still enjoy laid-back, short-ish podcasts, how important is it to you that they also be available in video format? As an OG podcaster, having started the practice back when we did it via smoke signals (c.2008), I’m admittedly sad at how everything’s gone all visual—yet the reality is that everyone and their neighbor’s dog has a podcast now, so in order to get seen in the crowd, it seems like a necessity these days. At least algorithmically.
I’m not opposed to video in theory, and I appreciate those rare birds who do it well (Autumn Kern and Austin Suggs are the first two people that come to mind), but it just feels like a whole other behemoth of tasks added to my already-full plate. Plus, that means makeup and lighting and what-not, and one of the original reasons podcasting was so lovely was because you could connect with people without having to do all that. But perhaps I just need to get over myself.
All this to say: I’d love those of you who still like podcasts to chime in with your thoughts on whether video matters to you in overall podcast enjoyment. What say you?
