Folley's right that the pedant who weaponizes book lists is real and annoying. But I've met the same person in space nerd circles, computer culture, audiophile forums. The currency changes, the behavior doesn't. This is a personality type, not a reading problem. Also, there's a mild irony in writing a philosophy-decorated essay about people who decorate their personalities with philosophy references.
