Teaching Learning Defined
This is the reality. Though most progressive educators would not want to admit it.
students in K–12 education are novices. They are not experts-in-waiting who simply need freedom, tools, and motivation to flourish. They are learners whose cognitive systems are still developing, whose knowledge is limited, and whose ability to think deeply depends almost entirely on what they have already stored in long-term memory. This is not a value judgement; it is a description of how learning works.
