In some manuscripts rabbits with bow and arrow hunt humans. In others they execute knights or flay the skin off a human foot. Occasionally they appear to be organizing military operations. Historians call this motif the world turned upside down, a favorite medieval joke in which the natural hierarchy briefly collapses. The weak become powerful.
