“My friend has your disability and they don't let it stop them” “I know someone with your chronic illness and this totally ‘cured’ them” I know this might be shocking to some people, but disabled people, even ones with the same disability/chronic illness, are not a monolith. We have different access needs, different abilities, different symptoms or impairments, different resources, different privileges, different experiences, different LIVES. It is so frustrating to have your experiences minimized or your disability/condition simplified by people who don't understand how disability works. If you actually want to be helpful, you're far better off educating yourself about that person's disability than assuming you know more than they do.
