This is a nuanced but important scenario I’ve been discussing with some military friends:

What if the simultaneous decapitation of so many IRGC leaders was designed to force them into exactly this quandary of dynastic succession which violates their own fundamentalist principles?

The second point alone — mobilizing traditionally anti-Israel Arab states against Iran, helped along by centuries of Sunni-Shia sectarianism — makes this a very different conflict from the 1970’s.

If the combo of the two results in permanent regime change, it would be a game-changer for the ME and entire world.
