Persian artisans developed a unique, highly advanced form of stained glass known as orosi (wood and colored glass lattice windows) that flourished particularly during the Safavid and Qajar dynasties (17th–19th centuries). While ancient stained glass existed elsewhere, Iranian orosi is distinct for using intricate wooden, nail-less joinery to create functional, operable windows designed to filter light, manage heat, and repel insects.
