The Unexpected Joy of Teaching
Some of the most meaningful moments in my studio don’t involve my own work at all.
They happen when someone steps back from their canvas and smiles.
When doubt gives way to curiosity.
When a student realizes they’re allowed to trust their hands.
Teaching wasn’t something I planned as a destination. It grew quietly alongside my own practice. What surprised me was how much joy it would bring — not just to others, but to me.
Watching people paint side by side reminds me that art isn’t about getting it “right.” It’s about showing up. About experimenting. About letting go of perfection and discovering what happens instead.
My studio has become a shared space. A place where everyone’s voice looks different, and that difference is the point. We paint, we laugh, we learn — together.
Teaching has taught me this:
Art doesn’t have to be lonely.
It’s something we remember and celebrate in community.
Love, Velvet 🤍
