Here in Hungary, the run-up to the elections is reaching a fever pitch. Even in corner shops, speculation fills the air between stacks of milk cartons and baskets of bread, and scarcely a friendly conversation unfolds without veering into public affairs.

This Thursday, the next installment of our series on the pivotal April 12 election arrives. Not since the democratic transition has the race been this close, and its stakes extend far beyond Hungary, carrying significant implications for the entire Central and Eastern European region.
