Time to air a petty pet theory I feel is true but can’t prove: a lot of people travel because it’s supposed to be fun, not because they find it fun. I think travelling would be revealed as a common but very far from universal interest if people were honest about whether they personally enjoy it, or just do it because it’s The Thing To Do with time off work or school. I know a few people who seem invigorated by a speedrun of tourist traps, and I know way more people who seem to find travelling exhausting but maybe like to have photos to share afterward of them doing The Thing To Do. However: I have no data on this, just vibes and a personal annoyance at people who try to convince me to travel despite seeming miserable every time they do.
