The hilarious part of this meme is that half the “Christian lands” it’s crying over were Christian because Christianity had already replaced older pagan cultures.
Turkey was not born Byzantine Christian. Egypt was not born Coptic Christian. North Africa had Berber, Roman, Punic, Jewish, indigenous, and other layers before Christianity became dominant. Europe itself was full of pagan cultures before Christian empires, missionaries, kings, and armies made them “Christian.”
So if the argument is “a religion spreading into a region changes culture,” congratulations, you have discovered history.
The dishonest part is pretending Islam uniquely erased identity while Christianity politely floated in on incense and vibes.
Religions spread through trade, empire, migration, marriage, patronage, law, persuasion, coercion, and politics. Sometimes peacefully. Sometimes brutally. That is true of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hindu kingdoms, secular nationalism, and every empire that ever put on pants.
This meme isn’t history. It’s a panic poster with flags.
