For Macabre Monday, please consider Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “Chronicle of a Death Foretold,” which tells the story of the day Santiago Nasar was killed.

It seems as though everyone in town, except him, knew the Vicario twins were scheming to kill Santiago. The worst part is that he was innocent.

I liked that this story starts with the smoking gun (or knives, in this case) and slowly builds up to reveal to the reader the fatal end of Santiago.

What other stories do you know that start by showing the smoking gun and building up to it?
