South Africa has its largest maize crop on record — about 17.1 million tonnes. The country’s annual maize needs are 12.0 million tonnes. There is a decent surplus for exports. Prices are under pressure, in part, due to ample supply. This bodes well for near-term food price inflation. This is the white maize price per tonne.
