Before Independence, Ghanians used pounds, shillings, and pence from Our Colonial Masters.
Now Our currency, The Cedis and Pesewas, are our symbols of economic growth and development.

20 Pesewas: Displays a cocoa pod, representing Ghana's agricultural wealth and position as a major cocoa producer.
10 Pesewas: Features an open book, a pen, and a star, symbolizing the nation's focus on education and knowledge.
5 & 1 Pesewa(s): Features a cocoa tree and a palm tree. (No longer used)
Common Obverse Side on all the current Pesewa coins feature the National Coat of Arms on the front
The 1 and 2 Ghana Cedi coins feature the National Coat of Arms on the back and on the front, the scales of Justice and the Laurel of Wreath.
The notes and coins of Ghana's currency have undergone significant changes over vast periods of time. Each era brings something minute but never trivial.
