I might expand this into a broader piece on the differences between four years ago and today, but it appears very little was spent on local races this cycle, at least by the candidates themselves.

Then again I have no idea since I now have two open records requests with the Wausau city clerk that have yet to be filled.

The school district clerk and the county clerk sent reports to me within 24 hours.

My first open records request from the city clerk dates to March 5. I was in the process of having an attorney draft a letter (though I seem to have trouble getting ahold of him now).

So maybe thousands have been spent in city council races - but I have no idea. Since the clerk doesn’t respond. (And apparently ignored my follow-up email.)

In 20 years of journalism I haven’t had a city clerk just flat out ignore a records request and follow up asking about it.
