A nice controversial one for the swimming coaches. My friends - stop being slaves to physiology. Swimmers don’t win races because they can hold their heart rates at 185 beats per minute for 40 minutes. They win because they can RACE - when and where it matters - with good technique and great skills under fatigue and pressure. Standing at the end of the pool yelling times and heart rates without a strong focus on technique, skills, underwater kicking and accuracy is 1980s coaching. Today’s swimming coaching is more accurate, more precise, more deliberate and purposeful than ever - and demands more than hitting the right heart rate for an extended period of time. Appreciate your thoughts. Check out my new post!
