If your team isn't performing, IGNORE what they SAY.
Forget the post-game press conference.
Watch what they DO.
Example: Players don't rush in to celebrate scores together.
Example: Players don't rush to support teammates after errors.
Lots of people talk about culture.
Very few understand it.
Culture is simply WHAT YOU DO.
You can't hide a broken culture.
Stop believing the rhetoric in press conferences. You're thinking like a fan.
If you're a serious sports professional, ignore what they say. Start really SEEING what they do.
I use my L.I.C.E. approach in pro team culture reviews:
L: Leadership
I: Internal issues, personality conflicts, politics
C: Connection; broken and not working
E: Effort and energy
The solutions are always in there.
(The LICE acronym is chosen very deliberately 😁)
Why? LICE are parasitic insects that live on human bodies, feeding on blood. Highly contagious.
If your culture is broken, it's like having LICE. 😖
What do you SEE when you watch your team?
