We like to talk about wealth as if it is permanent.

As if the balance in our account will outlive us.

As if the properties, policies, portfolios, and passwords will somehow “sort themselves out” when we are gone.

They won’t.

One day, quietly and without asking for permission, every one of us will exit this world.

No exceptions. No extensions.

No “just one more year.” Death is the only contract that never gets renegotiated.

Yet many people spend decades building wealth…

and zero days preparing for what happens after.

So they leave behind confusion.

Children who must become detectives.

Spouses who must become lawyers.

Siblings who slowly become enemies.

Grief layered on top of paperwork, courtrooms, and unanswered questions.

I think Mum wanted this.”

“He said that once, didn’t he?”

“But there’s nothing written.”

Legacy planning is not about money.

It is about mercy.

It is about deciding, while you are still clear-minded and alive, that the people you love should not have to suffer twice: once from losing you, and again from cleaning up what you avoided.

A proper will is a letter to the future.

An LPA is a vote of trust.

Clear instructions are a final act of leadership.

They say:

I cared enough to think ahead.”

“I did not outsource my responsibility to chance.”

“I loved you enough to make this easier.”

Some people avoid this topic because it feels morbid.

But avoidance is far more cruel.

Ignoring death does not postpone it.

It only postpones preparation.

And preparation is love, expressed in advance.

We insure our phones.

We insure our cars.

We insure our holidays.

But we don’t insure our legacy.

Strange, isn’t it?

One day, your name will be spoken for the last time in a room you are not in.

What will follow that moment?

Clarity?

Or chaos?

Peace?

Or paperwork?

Gratitude?

Or grudges?

Your wealth is not your legacy.

Your foresight is.

Plan while you still can.

Not because you fear dying.

But because you respect the living.
