Saturday Night Florida Snow Update:
Rainfall is kicking up along the Gulf Coast tonight, as a combination of an Arctic front and weak Gulf low looks to probably change that cold rain over to a few hours of mixed rain and snow or wet snow Sunday morning in northwestern portions of the Florida Panhandle, far SE Alabama, and south Georgia. A Winter Weather Advisory (in purple below) is in effect for Holmes, Washington, and Jackson (Marianna) Counties in Florida, as well as Dothan, Bainbridge, and Albany. These areas are likely to see a slushy coating to an inch of snow tomorrow morning between 5 and 11 a.m. Eastern, with 1-3" of snow possible north of Albany towards Macon in Central Georgia, where Winter Storm Warnings (pink) are in effect.
South of I-10 and east of the Apalachicola River in Florida, you are looking at a New Jersey-esque cold rain, with any snow brief and short-lived. However, there does remain a slight chance of a trace to coating of snow for Pensacola, Destin, Panama City, and even Tallahassee. The official National Weather Service forecast gives all of these areas a 20-30% chance of a trace of snow, which if it happens would be unlikely to stick. If a few minutes of snow do happen in Tallahassee, it would likely be between 9 a.m. and noon.
Overall, precip is developing a little faster than expected tonight, which may signal a slightly stronger Gulf low is in the works than models predicted. We'll see if there are any twists in store, but overall the Tallahassee area should set our snow expectations at zero and be pleasantly surprised from there. I'll update in the morning.
