As per Samo Burja, the world has two types of actors:

  • Live Players: Individuals and organizations with true agency who are capable of innovating and executing novel strategies

  • Dead Players: Those following scripts set by society, tradition, etc

I believe there's a third category we need to make sense of the world…

Introducing: Power Players

Individuals or organizations that begin as live players but become cordycepted by Moloch under the escalating demands of global competitiveness and the intensification of technological capitalism.

They remain technically "live" in their, their ability to innovate and find novel scripts, but "meta-dead" in their ends, as their creativity and problem-solving abilities have been conscripted into advancing competitive advantage at the expense of deeper values.

Power Players remain capable of strategic adaptation but blindly optimize for the accumulation of power and capital. They still demonstrate agency, but are compromised by unconscious optimization pressures, “winning” in a narrow sense, functioning as the most effective bootloaders for Moloch's self-reinforcing processes.

They believe themselves to be autonomous agents, and retain the outward appearance of Live Players while unconsciously serving systems that sacrifice deeper values for competitive advantage.
